What's the difference between ¿Qué estás haciendo? and ¿Qué haces? To me, they both mean What are you doing, but there must be a difference in the connotation, or feeling with each phrase. Does it have to do with time span? Which one would you use more often, if both of them are exactly the same. I've heard both before.

Well when used like that, they both mean, what are you doing?

The present progressive... ¿Qué estás haciendo? It´s an ongoing action, meaning that it´s being done now, and continues.

¿Qué haces? What are you doing? But you can use that for What are you doing now, in 5 minutes, or tonight.

I think the first means What are you doing now? And the latter: What are you doing? or What are you making?
