I do not have anyone close to help me with my lesson books. The use of Ud. is often in my lessons. a sentence like "¿Qué hace Ud.? When I read this aloud do I pronounce this as "Ud" or "usted? It is hard when I have no one to speak openly with.

it is said usted; Ud. is just a short-form or abbreviation like when we want to say Mister, we just abbreviate it as Mr. I hope this clarifies things up a little.

It's simply a truncation for usted. Pronounce the full word when reading aloud.
