I am female. What are the translations for werewolf (mujer loba?), weretiger (mujer tigre?) and shapeshifter(?)? I really want to be a werewolf and I want to be able to say it correctly. Thank you.

Loba ( female wolf) Licántropa ( female werewolf) Lupina (Lupine) I have seen Metamorfo used for shapeshifter once but I am not sure about it.

Hi Mimirodrigue,

I think that what you have come up with would probably work since these words (with the exception of hombre-lobo) do not exist in the Spanish lexicon. Here are a few of my ideas if you are interested. Besides hombre-lobo a werewolf is also called a licántropo/licántropa.

In Argentina, in legends/stories, a werewolf is called el lobizón o luisón. To make these feminine perhaps you could change these lobizona/luisona, but I don't know for sure.

Since lycanthropic comes from Greek (lykos - wolf + anthropos - man), and zoantropía (changing into many or other animals) is similarly formed from Greek roots (zoa - animal), perhaps you could take the Greek root of tiger (tigris) to form a similar word. Maybe: tigretropo/tigretropa. Or perhaps you could call it a lycanthropic tiger - tigre licantropica.

As far as a shape-shifter would is concerned perhaps cambio de forma natural - or convertirse de forma natural could possibly be used for shape-shift, but I am not sure what you could use for shape-shifter. You might try some derivatives of cambiarse, convertirse, metamorfosis, and transformación or even do a google search with different combinations of these words and see if you can come up with anything.

In any event, I hope that this was helpful. Good luck.

I just found these articles that use the words cambiante for shape-shifting and cambiadores for shape-shifters, and this one - teriantropía - for the specific ability to change into different animals
