According to google, "los ochentas" is more common than "las ochentas", and "los años ochenta" is ten times more common than those two combined. Given the amount of misspelling and bad grammar on the internet, that may not mean much.

yo sé por seguro que se puede decir "los años ochenta" y ¨los años noventa", pero no sé si se puede decir solo "las ochentas".

The 3 translators left out the article "las" except when one used the word "años" before the words for 80 and 90.I don't have an explanation for that or comment on whether that phrasing would be more appropriate.
