how would one say "quarter" like a basketball quarter?

I need to say, "I played well the first quarter and rested during halftime." I don't know how to say quarter (the sports term) or halftime. My Spanish Professor didn't like "entrada" like inning or "tiempo medio "for halftime. She said something like "tiempo primero" for haftime but didn't explain it well.

"Primer tiempo, segundo tiempo, tercer tiempo, cuarto tiempo" or also "primer cuarto, etc". Buth for the last "cuarto" you have to say " último cuarto", because "cuarto cuarto", even though is grammatically correct sounds very odd. For halftime you can use "entretiempo".
