Total Immersion! What are you watching?

Hello... so for all you folks like me who are going the total immersion route to learn this fantastic language I ask what Spanish shows are you watching and what do you recommend? I am currently watching "Los Misterios de Laura" and "Hunter X Hunter - Latin dub". The first is a cool drama, and the second is actually an anime (lol I know) that is dubbed in Spanish. So what are you watching?

ChamacoMalo suggested http://wwitv.com/ to me (thanks), which allows you to watch TV online from dozens of different countries, for free. I like to watch "Caso Cerrado" on Telemundo (through the Puerto Rico channels on wwitv) weekdays at 4:00pm. It's like "Judge Judy" but way more (over)dramatic.

I've watched that (Caso Cerrado) a couple of times - it was like a cross between Jerry Springer, Cheaters and the Peoples Court - Izanoni1, Oct 12, 2009

It's your lucky day:

Hundreds of movies all dubbed in spanish. It could be beneficial to start with ones you've seen previously in english.

Suerte.

I've been watching "Mi corazón insiste" (fortunately, it's going to end soon). Mainly I watch it because the are several major hotties in the cast (but I tell my wife that it's for the practice in Spanish). Due to the moronic scheduling by Telemundo (here in NY), it starts at about 5 minutes after the hour, so I often end up watching the final five (or so) minutes of "Caso Cerrado", which I find revolting (and there are never any hotties).

That said, for exposure to "normal conversational Spanish"; telenovelas are a very good resource. A while back a member complained that the Spanish programs that she found were stupid and that she wanted to find "good" programs". I suspect that this represents a conflict of interests.

Everyday conversation (when viewed from the perspective of literary merit) is usually sadly lacking. We repeat ourselves endlessly, clichés abound. This (everyday conversation) however, is the goal for many students. Nor is there anything wrong with aspiring to have a command/competence with respect to "everyday" conversation.

I usually watch at least parts of Telenoticias Puerto Rico, Levántante, Victorinos (occasionally), and Caso Cerrado (for the laughs). Believe it or not, I have found commercials, particularly any Programación Comercial helpful because of the repetition. The first show I watched in it's entiretly was Madra Luna. I'm still disappointed that is over!

I watched the movie "Voces Inocentes" today. Just heart-wrenching and tragic. Great movie if you can bear it.

I'm a beginner, so I watch mainly watch Vida Salvaje and various news programs, since they speak more slowly and clearly. I also occasionally watch movies I've seen before dubbed in Spanish and random shows depending on what is on, but they are harder to follow.

I'm also watching an anime called Los Caballeros del Zodiaco. It's a latin dub, as well. If you want to see the whole thing, check out veoh.com and type it in. It's really great!

I watch movies that we show for the students at school, but I don't have a television at home, so I am particularly interested in learning of Spanish shows I can watch online.

I love travel programmes (and learning Spanish obviously) so this series is perfect for me. As the title suggests, it is all about Spanish people who live around the world. There are loads of episodes. Is your town among them?

Hi,

I'm a beginner and I've watched 'Mi vida loca' (BBC online) and 'Destinos' I find it so helpful because it's challenging but understandable- if I get lost in something too difficult, I just get discouraged. I'm nearing the end of Destinos. (I'm mortified) Can anyone recommend something similar/similar in level not in style.

Thanks in advance!

Descisiones Extremas is more advanced, but has subtitles, so it can be a good start into understanding Spanish at full speed. http://www.mun2.tv/shows/decisiones-extremas/all - estudiante9871, Nov 21, 2011

My recommendation would be Juanes. He is a Colombian singer, he is fantastic. His songs are very catchy. My other suggestion would be to surround yourself with other things in Spanish daily. For example, I set my facebook language to Spanish and I have actually learned a few things since. P.S. youtube is a good place to start looking for Juanes songs. Once you hear a few, you will buy a CD.

Juanes is my FAVORITE Spanish singer! At the moment, my favorite song by him is "Mala Gente". If you haven't heard that one, you should check it out on youtube. - yvonneibe7, Oct 25, 2009
