relative pronoun

I am trying to say: Luckily, there are simple suggestions for preserving the environment, which the whole family can do.
Por suerte, hay sugerencias sencillas para conservar energía, las cuales todo la familia puede hacer.
¿Qué les parece?

It seems to be fine. I just would change "conservar energía", because you said "preserving the environment", that is something more general (energy is part of the environment).

Entonces la frase quedaría cómo: "Por suerte, hay sugerencias sencillas para preservar el medio ambiente, las cuales toda la familia puede hacer".

Thanks to you both, it helps. I do have to use the relative pronouns el/la que or el/la cual in this sentence.

I have been told that even if cuales is correct, it is usually replaced by que because cuales is usually only used in extremely formal writing/settings

Me parece bien. Except that your Spanish phrase emphasizes conserving energy (as oposed to preserving the environment). Also it should be "toda la familia"; toda agrees with familia. Finally sugerencias aren't really something you "hacer". I might rewrite the sentences as follows:

Por suerte, hay muchas cosas que toda la familia puede hacer para conservar energía.

This should work, unless your goal was to create an example using the relative pronoun las cuales.
