Why can't I simply insert one of my own pictures, from my hard drive, in a post?

The reason, Ian, is that it would make the size of this site ridiculously large. That's why the standard practice on any message board that I know of is to allow posting of photos through linking to other sites.

It's pretty easy to link to a photo anywhere on the web. For instance, this photo is linked directly from the CNN website:

If you sign up for a free account at photobucket, you can cut and copy the link address, complete with formatting, with a mere click.

Photobucket

Linking is just too easily done for all these message board sites to use up their resources storing photos.

I hope you'll give it a try. Trust me, it's easier than learning Spanish! smile

You can in a roundabout way. Upload your photo to a free photosharing internet service'(Flickr, webshots, etc), and you can then post it.

I usually load some photos on imageshack.us. Or, when I want to post anything connected to the topic, I try to find something relevant in google graphics. And then simply paste the link.

Just like this one

Thanks, everyone! It's great to have this ability to add photos when we want to. Mine is from Google Images. - --Mariana--, Oct 11, 2009

Try to change the extension of the picture. I had a photograph with "name.bmp". And I couldn't insert as my avatar. But when I changed into "name.jpg" I could insert it as my avatar.

When I go to imageshack.us it is asking me to subscribe at 8 dollars/month.

Yes, it is all a racket to make money. - nila45, Oct 13, 2009
But you don't have to do that. Click the "Browse" button from that screen, select the file you want to upload, then click "Start Upload". No account necessary. - Goyo, Oct 13, 2009
But photobucket is still way easier, as it keeps your photos in your account, all together. Imageshack with no account means you have to keep a list of your photo URLs. - Goyo, Oct 13, 2009
