I am a volunteer tutor attempting to assist Hispanic Women in learning English. My dictionary did not answer my question. Sorry I bothered some of you. Thanks to the others! - annlayton, Oct 9, 2009
No bothers.... I don´t agree with the rules... but I did leave a translation for you. - NikkiLR, Oct 9, 2009

The girl is kicking the ball = La chica patea la pelota

I think that this thread is an excellent example of why the administrators of this website should come up with a different system for dealing with people who ask for simple translations.

One cannot force someone to learn Spanish. And people who wish to learn Spanish will not be hindered in their efforts should they receive the occasional quick translation answer from people at this forum.

This is likely this person's first experience with this forum, instead of an answer they received chastisement. What is accomplished by this? What is wrong with providing the translation requested? We don't have to answer such questions, but if we have energy and desire to do so, what is wrong with it? How is that different than providing a translation tool? To me, it is better to leave the question unanswered than to provide chastisement to newcomers.

Better would be to provide the translation along with a friendly reminder of the existence of as well as a link to a translation tool and dictionary...a button could be added to the editor that would automatically insert the required text and links for such a reminder.

I think it is running people off when you respond to newcomers this way, which I doubt is truly a goal of the people involved in administering the site.

That's my two cents.

I have to 100 percent agree with you about the rules. But at times, if you answer without them trying first, you answer will be deleted. - NikkiLR, Oct 9, 2009
And, no offense is intended against admins. I am only saying I think this is an area that could use re-thinking. - webdunce, Oct 9, 2009

The girl is kicking the ball = La chica patea la pelota

That is the girl kicks the ball.

Wouldn't it be... La chica está pateando la pelota.

Also, couldn't you say...

La chica está dando patadas a la pelota.

Like soldiers sprinkled in a field without any organization, words strewn on a sheet of paper are useless without any order being imposed.

Me tarzan, you Jane makes sense but it is not expressing anything too hard to grasp.

In a Spanish sentence there are verb complements and subjects complements. Verb complements are I need help translating these into English

I think that a lot of people are under the impression that you wanted to do your homework on the cheap side. If that is ok with you then it is ok with me.

Who knows why, but if you are a young student and you think that there is no need for you to learn about Spanish then that is ok too. It does not really matter whether you learn another language. But let me tell you this; the important thing is that by studying a new skill you learn this:

  1. How to think better.
  2. discipline
  3. Your horizons are enlarged
  4. The knowledge that you can do what you aim for.

Here is a hint,In your sentence there are three important words, girl, kicking and ball. you can look them up in a English /Spanish dictionary. Or you can use the dictionary on this site.

Once you find the Spanish definition of theses three words.Ask this question on this site, "How can I make this three words into a sentence"?

I don't know if this will work but at least you are trying to learn or learning how to learn.

Good luck, my friend.

PS. write the three words in Spanish, not English.

I agree with Gus...none of us here got where we are by someone else telling us what to say. You have to puzzle it out. Post it. Then everyone can tell you what they think about the topic. I'm always telling people...try it...post it...think on it. That is the way to learn. I can tell you how to say it, but what will you have learned? wink Think on it, post it, and don't be afraid someone will laugh...I probably will laugh at you, but I will always vote you and pat you on the back for your effort. wink
