mejor or mejor que

I would like to translante the phrase "I think that it is better for a community to have a unified language than a diverse number of languages". Here is my attempt at translating the phrase: Pienso que es mejor para una comunidad tener una lengua unificada que un número de lenguas diversas. I have many questions about this phrase: 1. Whether or not "ser" should be in the subjunctive 2. Whether "mejor para" should be "mejor que" 3. Whether or not I used "tener" correctly 4. Whether or not I used the last "que" correctly (it is supposed to mean "than")

  1. I like "es". Indicative is good here.
  2. I like mejor que. You are introducing a comparative phrase. "mejor que" should be used here.

And now it gets too complex for me.... What you have is my best stab after this.

This is a possibility:

Pienso que una comunidad debe tener sólo un idioma en lugar de varios idiomas.
