April,
Please concentrate on learning to read, write, and speak proper Spanish before worrying about what type of slang is out there.
This way you can communicate with the majority of the 400 million Spanish-speaking people who populate the planet, and moreover, you'll be proud of your Spanish.
As people have said above, learn to speak Spanish properly first. Then, if someone uses a slang term you do not understand, you can ask them it's meaning and understand the reply. ![]()
Yes there is slang in spanish, and I, your Chamacito, el abayardoso, is forever in trouble for telling my fellow students about it. LOL. Be very careful with slang in spanish...if used wrong it will get you a sideways look, or a beatdown, depending on your misuse of it and who you are talking to. I cannot tell you in open forum some slang terms, I'll get in trouble, and I'm always on the verge of getting thrown out on my ear anyway...but don't focus on that. Learn what the good people here are trying to teach you, for free, and in time you will learn your slang. ![]()

Of course, every language has some type of slang.
Spanish people are people too, the things that develop in our language will also develop in any other language that many people are speaking regularly, as the language needs to fit with life, and life is colourful!
Slang is very regional though (which is why it's called 'slang', and it's not considered an actual proper part of the language that everyone speaks) and can be very personal... things that are slang to you might be completely not understood by someone who goes to a different school.
As you get to learn the language and talk with people in it, you'll pick up the slang they use, and come up with your own to match. Knowing what people say for something in the south of Cuba is going to be completely useless if you're speaking to someone from Argentina.
You can say patas for feet.
Yes and in every country it varies. It even varies state to state, region to region, zone to zone...
Believe it or not Spanish happens to be the only language that doesn't have any slang. Just kidding. If you do a search you with fing hundreds of answers on this.
