Estacionamiento, Compartimiento...

Are there more spanish words that end with the string "miento" ?

Is there some kind of pattern or is it just random ?

"miento" is the same as the english "ment". Often this is used to turn verbs into nouns. Acapar -> Acaparamiento. Sufrir -> Sufrimiento etc.

Tried * miento and got: conocimiento nacimiento alojamiento comportamiento ayuntamiento I guess there are words that end with miento but for no specific reasons. Ho well tahnks anyway grin

As far as I can tell, all of the -miento and -mento words are nouns derived from verbs, just like the -ment words in English. Some of the verbs are archaic, such as ayuntar (which is still listed in the RAE dictionary.) There are similar words in English, like sacrament, for which the original verb is no longer in use (in the case of sacrement it comes from sacren meaning "to consecrate" from which we have only retained the word sacred, the past participle turned into an adjective) or for which the transformation from verb to noun occurred in Latin and the verb never made it into English.

To add to the confusion, there are words like gobierno that are nouns made from verbs that don't follow the rule.
