total number of words in the spanish language?
There are over three-million words in the English language; how many words comprise the Spanish language? Is it also three-million?

I find the number three million, even one million, highly suspect. Woajiarober's presumption seems like a good one to me, i.e. that number is "fudged" by including all sorts of things to inflate the count.
Not necessarily a reliable source but here is a discussion on this topic where one person contends that there are upwards of three hundred to four hundred thousand ¿Cuantas palabras existen...? (again not necessarily a reliable source)
According to this site their are only around 85,000
Interesting. I am sure it is very hard to get a firm number but this discussion should be interesting!
It is generally stated (although authorities differ) that English has around 250,000 to 300,000 words when obsolete words (which still exist in some unabridged dictionaries) aren't counted. There is one count that puts the English vocabulary at about 1 million words but that count presumably includes words such as Latin species names, prefixed and suffixed words, jargon, foreign words of extremely limited English use, technical acronyms and the like, making the count as much of a gimmick as anything else
Are you sure about that? Just recently I heard in the news that one word was added to the English language to total the 1 million mark. I have also heard for quite some time that Spanish and Greek were the reaches languages with just over 1 million words each. But I'm getting older and senile, I might be wrong.
After looking this up it looks like there are less than English maybe 2:1 ratio. Spanish is a lot more precise.
