In a Mexican restaurant one of my favorites is tamales. Someone once told me that if you order just one, it is called a tamal. But most people say tamale. Which is correct, and what is the plural?

The singular is tamal, the plural is tamales. Tamale is the English spelling.

Tamales are wonderful (but I'm an incurable Mexican food adict).

The SpanishDict dictionary also provides this droll description to qfreed's photo.

  1. A kind of small dumpling, made of Indian meal, stuffed with minced meat or other eatables, and boiled in the husk of the Indian corn. (America) (m)

Now I need a snack...
