A post about the Mexican slang "padre" used for "cool" got me thinking about this.

What are you favorites? Here are a few I know, and the regions they're used in (que yo sepa!):

chévere - Cuba /
tuanis - Costa Rica /
guay - Spain /
de (la) puta madre - Spain /
la leche - Spain /
chulo - almost everywhere! /
genial - everywhere? /
tener la onda (to be cool) - Mexico /
molar (to be cool) - not sure

Me imagino que hay millones. Compartan lo que sepan!

True, much like "coger" in Mexico. In Spain, "de puta madre" is not considered offensive, although quite informal/colloquial. The Spanish love to cuss :) - mateo2, SEP 28, 2009

I still vote for padre. Too bad father or dad couldn't be synonymous with cool in english.

This could be the driving reason behind it. - Seitheach, SEP 28, 2009

La onda is a mexican one I really like, and it's really migrating, at least around here. La onda is The Bomb. ;-0
