El mapa: traducción

I looked mapa up in the RAE, and this is what was listed as an entry.

Representación geográfica de la Tierra o parte de ella en una superficie plana.

I believe that this would translate to:

The geographical representation of the Earth or part of her in a scaled plane

Can you please tell me if my attempted translation is correct.

I think it might be: "The geographic representation of the Earth or part of it on a flat surface. "

Don't count my opinion for facts since I'm just a starting student as far as Spanish goes, but your translation seems pretty accurate. Of course, we wouldn't normally refer to the Earth as "she" in English, but then again, it's almost impossible to have a completely accurate translation from one language to another.
