Should the verb sentirse, to feel, be conjugated into the preterite or the imperfect?

If I was to say 'I felt tired ' would I say Me sentía cansado or Me sentí cansado?

It depends on the rest of the narration. If you were using it to paint the background, "I was feeling tired" and that feeling continues throughout the narration then use the imperfect. If it's part of a series of the events taking place in the past or if it ends in the past then use the preterite.
