How do I say "I wish I had a...."?

I know that it's subjunctive mood and maybe would start "deseo que..." followed by tener in the present subjuctive maybe? Or preterit subjunctive?

So perhaps:

deseo que tenga una manzana

Is this correct?

this is certainly not standarD Spanish, possibly it is said this way but sounds really wrong.

Espero que /deseo que is not followed by an object

Espero que tengas un buen día. Deseo que te vaya bien todo.

BUT:

Espero tener una manzana. ( I hope to have,,,) Deseo tener una manzana. ( I would like to have...)

I wish I had can be expressed in two ways:

Ojalá tuviera una manzana.

Me gustaría tener una manzana.

Desearía tener una manzana.

A normal way to express your wish in Spanish would be with "Ojalá". Here, you'd use the "subjuntivo imperfecto", since it's a wish that's unfulfilled in the present. So, for example: "Ojalá tuviera una manzana."

Remember, the subjunctive is used when you have a change in subject. In this case, the subject remains the same 'I' or 'yo'. What happens now?
