Just an observation.

I guess the point I was really trying to make is that this a learning site. Learning involves the exchange of ideas, not just criticising ideas o como hablan la gente. There are lots of people here that can share their words, how they speak, etc., but never do. They give explanations in english, but hardly ever in spanish. Even if some gives an explantion in spanish, and other person uses a translator to read it, this is still learning. I mean, after all, there are people aca that have lots of expierence but never share it. I don't...I don't know...college wasn't like that. But then this isn't a college, si? I did call that girl hostile yesterday...we had a really good debate yesterday, some opinions were more forceful than others, but that girl just went all Alanis Morristte on me. No body else was like that, and no responded after her words. That speaks volumes, I think.

Chris:

I guess some people simply want to study/talk about Spanish and not get involved with other types of discussions. What's wrong with that?

I like the general discussions and almost always post some answer; however, I don't see any problem with people only joining the conversations that hold interest for them.

Let me remind you that this is more of a learning site, with lots of focus on proper Spanish and lots of corrections flying around, than a chat site.

Moreover, what you call "critical" people (for example, you called someone "hostile" yesterday) I would call "interesting." This is a forum made up of all sorts of people from all sorts of different backgrounds, therefore, you're going to get some lively debates at times. You may not agree with some people who have strong opinions (the critics) but that's how they express themselves. As long as they focus their criticism on the topic and not direct it toward a particular speaker, all is good.

I say lighten up grin and enjoy what the forum has to offer and only get involved when the topic is of interest to you.

Peace, Marianne

Siga ahi...leerlo!

Another person had said to me that the people don't want to speak in my form of "street" level spanish, and desire to do other things. But that illustrates what small point I was trying to make. This person could point out the wrong in my way of speech, and in fact for 2 paragraphs with bulletpoints, but couldn't say well I have 2 sisters and a dog in spanish. I'm not fighting...it was just a curious thing that started to show itself to me last week and really jumped out yesterday. And no, it wasn't Mari. wink

You know what confuses me...?

When you leave a good answer and people vote up the stupid ones!
