It's not the same thing.

Quiénes is Plural ¿Quiénes somos? Who are we?

And

Quién es means "Who is". ¿Quién es tu hermana? Who is your sister?

Quién is a question word that means who.

Quien is a word that means that, which, or who, or whom (as in, the one who/that/which lives by me, or the one who drives the taxi).

El hombre con quien hablaba... The man to whom I was talking...

quien (es)-I am guessing "who" plural
