el uso de Por y Para

Saludos. Creo que sé cuál de los dos que se debe usar en este contexto pero quiero sondear lo que ustedes piensan al respeto. Puedo verlo de las dos maneras pero me parece que "El político hace mucho POR los pobres" es lo más correcto, en vez de "hace mucho PARA los pobres" Es así o no? Me parece que hasta los nativohablantes se equivocan a veces en cuanto al uso de 'por' versus 'para'.

I think por in por los pobres would mean "on behalf of" (Hablo por los pobres), whereas para los pobres would mean "for the poor."

One trick I've learned is to throw the phrases into google and see what comes up. In this case, para los pobres comes up with many more results.

I think Motley's response includes an example that's quite similar to what you're saying.

"With a noun or pronoun as object, meaning for the benefit of or directed to: Es para usted. It's for you."

So your sentence should include "para los pobres."

el "por" se utiliza cuando hay causa-motivo y "para" cuando hay finalidad.

p.e. lo hago por amor (el razon es el amor)
para ganar dinero tienes que trabajar mucho (ganar dinero es la finalidad)

yo utilizaria hace mucho por los pobres
