Mi amor....

Is the phrase "mi amor" used for friends, family and loved ones, or is it reserved for only your loved one. Does the rule change when you have a girlfriend/boyfriend and you use it towards your friends?

JohnJuan seems to use it toward all of us, but maybe he's just friendly like that. LOL

The only thing I can find on it in the dictionaries seems to say that it's not for casual friends.

I'll be interested in seeing other opinions on that!

Thanks. I just didn't want him to be discouraged that we were all talking about him. He is a great contributor. - Nicole-B, Sep 14, 2009

I have heard a female teacher use it towards her young students in the D.R. I'm wondering if this was acceptable, since she was an American.

Thanks

For some reason this sounds okay. I'd take it as "my darling little one" and see it as a term of endearment. - --Mariana--, Sep 14, 2009

You cannot use mi amor with friends, only family (mother to child for example), and relationships.
