In Mexico it can be/is used simply to refer to a girl (equivalent to "muchacha"). This is one of the problems with regional slang. The fact that it is used with a different meaning in Puerto Rico is irrelevant to its use in Mexico. - samdie, SEP 12, 2009

There's a little saying in the street in Puerto Rico, it goes "La chamaca me salio" which is to say I'm having a fit. The really good thing about this is that you can see that spanish is like a rainbow, how words change with context. wink
