Preterite vs. Imperfect: just one sentence, please :)
This is my essay for Spanish class, can you please read over it ( if you don't have time even one paragraph would help greatly or even one sentence with a bold word). If you see any mistakes, then please tell me. I am not very good with preterite and imperfect, so tips on that would rock!
Esto verano fui al Victoria, BC con mis padres, mi hermana, y mi abuela. En orden al ir a Victoria tomábamos un transbordador. El viaje entero que incluyendo tiempo en coche tomaba aproximadamente seis horas. En Victoria nos quedábamos en el Hotel de los Puertos Torres. En el hotel teníamos una suite con una vista del puerto. La vista estaba muy bonita especialmente en la noche. Cada mañana veíamos el transbordador venía al puerto. El primer día vinimos muy tarde y sólo podíamos visitar las atracciones el día siguiente. El día siguiente íbamos al museo de los insectos. El museo era sólo dos cuartos con muchos depósitos con insectos raros. En el museo podía agarrar una tarántula, un escorpión a un milpiés. También me gustaba el gigante colonia de hormigas. Había miles de hormigas en tubos en la pared. Durante nuestra estancia tomábamos un paseo carruaje alrededor del pueblo viejo. Nuestro caballo se llamaba Chester y tenía dieciocho años. Cuando era joven Chester trabajaba en Alaska en un campamento de la tala. El último día en Victoria visitábamos el jardín de las mariposas. El jardín de las mariposas era un invernadero y cada día tenía al menos de tres miles mariposas y polillas. También habia cientos de orugas. Pero uno de mis favoritos era la polilla de Atlas. La polilla de Atlas es una polilla más grande en el mundo. Se queda en su capullo por tres o cinco años y después sólo vivirá por mas o menos cinco días. También el jardín tiene plantas exóticas y pájaros diferentes como flamencos. Un pájaro que se llama Spike se gustaba mi padre. El quiso dormir encima del zapato de mi padre. Cada tiempo mi padre intentaba quitarse, Spike gritaba y batía sus alas. Tengo un video en mi cámara.

Caveat: My native language is English.
HI anna, the imperfect is used to describe an action that takes place during some time.
You can use it when you can say: I used to...in English.
For example: Every morning we saw the ferry enter the harbor (we used to see the harbor, correct)
but: In order to go to Victoria we took a ferry. (we used to take a ferry???? wrong)
So, once you can see that, imperfect is only used under these conditions. Please have a look at your text and post it here again, once you have made the changes.

HI heidita I solely wrote this in spanish. But here is the gist.
This summer I went to Victoria, BC with my family. In order to go to Victoria we took a ferry. The entire ride, including the car ride took around six hours. In Victoria we stayed at the harbor towers hotel. In the hotel we had a suite with a view of the harbor. The view was very beautiful.. Every morning we saw the ferry enter the harbor. The first day we came very late and were only able to visit the attractions the second day. “ we went to the bug museum. The museum was only two rooms that had many tanks with bugs. In the museum I was able to hold a tarantula, etc. I also like the giant colony of ants. There were thousands of ants in tubes on the wall. During our stay we took a carriage ride around the old town. Our horses name was Chester and he was 18 years old. When he was young Chester worked in Alaska in a logging camp. The final day we visited the Butterfly Gardens. “ was a greenhouse and everyday they had at least three thousand butterflies and moths. Also there were hundreds of caterpillars. But one of my favorites was the atlas moth. “ is the largest moth in the world. She stays in her cocoon for 3-5 years and afterwards only lives for 5 days. Also the garden had exotic plants and different birds like flamingos. One bird who was named Spike liked my dad. He wanted to sleep on top of my dads shoe. Every time my dad tried to push him off Spike yelled and flapped his wings. I have a video in my camera.
