¿Alli or ahi?

Question

When showing my Spanish speaking customers the way to the Parts Department would I say El Departamento de Piezas está alli, or ahi? Should I add mismo?

allí mismo

Actually, the words allí and ahí are quite interchangable and you would not notice the difference in pronounciation, very similar not to say the same.

"aquí" means "(en) este lugar": where the speaker is, or some nearby location "ahí" means "(en) ese lugar": where the hearer is, or some location that is neither near nor far but somewhere in-between "allí" means "(en) aquel lugar": where neither the speaker nor the hearer is, or some far away location Two simple examples:

I always took "alli" to mean over there and "ahi" to be way over there. Does that make any sense?
