Something basic to know:

video podcasts can be in several formats: m4a, .mp3, .mov, .mp4, .m4v, and .pdf.

Just make sure that the ipod that you buy can play those formats or that you learn how to convert from a format that your player doesn't support to one that it does.

Can you really have videos in pdf? - lazarus1907, Sep 5, 2009
I clipped that off an Itunes site telling you how to make video podcasts so I guess so. - 0074b507, Sep 5, 2009

For Apple iPods you need either a Classic or a Touch for video. I have a Classic. The Classic has a much larger hard drive, the Touch has a larger screen and a bunch of new features. I'm a music nut, so I need the bigger hard drive.

Hi Joyful...welcome to the forum! grin

Why not just step into an apple store and ask about them? Or visit their website, which will give you lots of information about each model of iPod?

I have a creative zen which is not an apple ipod, and my zen plays some formats, but I always use the converter which came with it to reduce the file size.

For audio only.. my player shines because it does not have to have mp3s converted.. it plays them in their native format where an ipod always has to have them all converted changing the file name and every thing. The other benefit to my player is I can use sd cards to store files and play them essentially allowing me unlimited storage.

ipods are nice but there are other options and you should do some research, for instance using a phone or blackbery. Lots of companies make competing products. For instance Sony has a hand held game machine which plays video and music as well. You have allot of choice.

good luck
