In the sentence, a mí me gustaba. What does "a mí" mean? Thanks a lot.

HI zhou, this means: to me really, but in the sentences it is I.

Let me explain:

A mí me gusta el queso. I like cheese.

But I am told that it is easier for English speakers to translate this as:

Cheese pleases me.

Just turn the sentence round as cheese is the subject of the sentence.

so: a mí is a duplicate of the "me" in the sentence, here to give emphasis, sometimes however it is necessary in the sentence.
