How old is too old?
How long do you think it would take me to be semi fluent in spanish?Does anybody have any techniques that would help me to memorize more?

There is no such thing as "too old".
This post might be of interest to you.
My recommendation is to seek out and interact with native speakers. If that is not a practical choice for you, visit the Learn Spanish section of this site and take the courses, watch movies (or television) in Spanish with English sub-titles (or the other way around), or you could always go to a site like wikipedia.org and pick out a topic that you know a lot about, and then choose the Spanish link for that topic on the side of the screen. That will help you to make connections to the language based on your interests in a language that you already understand.
With complete immersion you will be able to "function" in a few weeks (2 or 3).
Everything else will depend on how seriously you take your learning.
Its never too Old for anything. Just do what you wanna do!!
Fortunately, I live in Florida so there are several Spanish language radio stations.
When I first moved here, an entire chain of video stores was going out of business so I got tons of Spanish language movies for super cheap.
You would be surprised how helpful just having stuff like that in the background helps - you pick out a word here and there ... then 2-3 words at a time ... I'm up to phrases now but not yet whole sentences.
Forums where you can practice are good ... even just keeping a spanish language blog that says "Hoy tuve huevos para el desayuno."
There's a lot of good rock and alternative in spanish so I'm able to immerse myself all the time even without actually knowing anyone who speaks it. I'm not fluent yet but I'm certainly not discouraged.
