Can the verb "recordar" be used in this sentence?

Este pedazo de coral está por encima de mi cama y siempre me recuerdo de la playa, mi casa a la playa, y el océano, mi sueño de siendo un biólogo del marino.

In English: This piece of coral is above my bed and always reminds me of the beach, my house at the beach, the ocean, and my dream of being a marine biologist

I think this would be a better translation: "Este pedazo de coral está encima de mi cama y siempre me recuerda la playa, mi casa en la playa, el océano y mi sueño de ser un biólogo marino."

I like the infinitive ser for the English present participle. Good catch. - 0074b507, Sep 1, 2009

I think this is correct, but to me encima de mi cama sounds like it's sitting on the bed. I would probably use sobre mi cama. Perhaps that's just my preference.

recordar is probably ok, but it looks like you wrote "I remind myself"

me recuerda... it reminds me
