Other tenses would certainly be possible (to provide certain shadings of meaning) but I have used (and heard similar constructions) "Crecí en Nueva York"hundreds of times (for the most part the "similar constructions" differed only in the location).

Using the pretérito "perfecto" simple would imply completion. Are you all grown up? - 0074b507, Aug 31, 2009
I like to think that there's still some "kid" in me. - 0074b507, Aug 31, 2009

grow/grewt

When I grow up=cuando sea grande (surprises me)

hacerse mayor (me suena mejor)

according to this site you use crecer or criarse

me crié

crecía

I like madurar

I agree. It seems like using madurar or some form of this word would be the best one to go with - Izanoni1, Aug 31, 2009

I think that crecía would imply that you grew larger, but not necessarily that you reached an age of maturity.

I like madurar

Madurez-adulthood

Alcanzaba madurez-I reached adulthood (maturity)

I believe (I am not so sure if the tense is correct) you could say

Alcanzaba la mayoría de edad

la mayoría de edad-Adulthood

Alcanzaba-I reached

MM, Correct spelling is mandatory on this forum, thanks.

I have seen several posts by you on this forum with wrong spelling.
