Reputation Discrepancy

Question

Hmm... I'm a little confused. On the little bar near the top right of the screen that lists one's Reputation Points, number of badges, and Lesson Points, it says I have 2k Reputation Points. And yet, on my Profile page, it says I have 1,500 or so. Was I magically given points out of the blue, haha? Because there is no way that I got 500 Rep Points in the course of one day, and there is obviously a discrepancy between the 2k on the bar, and the 1,500ish on my Page. I don't want to magically have points that don't belong to me or that I don't deserve. Does anyone know what could be going on?

According to a previous discussion when your points reach 1501 it will show 2K (in other words it rounds off to the nearest 1K.)

Well, that's kind of a stupid feature, at least in my opinion. A 500 point gap is a lot. (And I was so looking forward to my editing powers... JK.) :-P - Nick-Cortina, Aug 29, 2009

Qfreed's right -- most times your reputation (or badge count or points count) is displayed, it's rounded to the nearest thousand if it's above 1,000. I agree, this can be unexpected and misleading. Perhaps it shouldn't round at all. Perhaps it should only start rounding at some higher point. Perhaps it should show "1.5k".
