South American Spanish

Question

What countries in South America speak alike to Euro spanish? Being of a Uruguayan background the translated words i hear are different from what I know.

Formal standard Spanish is the same everywhere. Colloquial Spanish changes from country to country, specially slang. You'll find that some countries share colloquial words and expressions that others don't use, but there are no fixed patterns. The south of Spain share with Mexico more things than the north of Spain, and Spain shares things with Cuba, that Mexico and Cuba don't share between them. In other words, in educated and formal circumstances, we all speak the same; in informal situations, each country has its own range of local expressions. Still, communication between people from different countries, even if they speak colloquially, is not a problem, even though every now and then there is a word or an expression that you don't recognize.
