Is there a simple way to remember when to use para and when to use por? I find it very confusing.

Have you tried searching for "por/para" in the forum or checking the reference section? It is a question we get several times a week. Read some previous answers, because there is plenty of good advice. If you still have trouble, come back and try something a bit more specific.
