Uploading an avatar/ editing profile
Hi, for some months I have either been away or had little to no access to the web outside business hours, "at home". Now I have a wireless connection (if somewhat weak and instable) and hope to become a bit more active, make contributions, ask questions, etc., here at SpanishDict.com.
I thought it might be nice to begin by updating my profile photo with a picture from summer, but the site finds an error in my submission. The maximum size is given as 100x100, 50kb and the picture meets those restrictions. I assume that the 100x100 figure refers to pixels? Actually, the unedited version of the picture is less than 50kb, although 152x207 pixels.
.....hmm...perhaps my picture is too scary;->) I did choose a picture rather than an actual "avatar". Perhaps the system recognizes the difference? and prefers more anonymity?
Any hints? could the problem lie with my rather unstable connection?

The "avatar" (in my case profile picture) upload is working now. I already feel a lot cooler being out of that heavy black coat!strong text
I am sorry, Janice, I had not checked as I thought it was a problem of the browser. But I have tried to download a new avatar, as I do every week, 
, and no way. 
I will have to stick with this one for a while.
By the way, when I saw your avatar, which turned out to be your photo, I thought you were a figure from a film. Have you seen "Flatline'" fascinating film, well, one of the guys, a small child, wears a hood like you and I always thought the photo was him.

Oh,..will the new site have a pronunciation topic? I have lots of posts for such a topic, but have hesitated because I am not sure they really belong anywhere here - not in "Greetings", not in "Vocabulary and Grammar", nor "Announcements" or "Culture" or "Proof Reading". Maybe the thread could be called "Proof Listening or Proof Hearing"

I have been trying to change my avatar both on explorer and chrome, no way, I will have to stick with this one for a while...

What actually isn´t working? You need to click on "my page" then choose edit profile under Personal settings. You should then be able to make the alterations. Don´t forget to select/click the "update" button at the bottom of the page.

If you tried the picture option I'm surprised that you did not get the error message saying that that feature wasn't currently available. I had to upload my picture (jpg) as an avatar. However, you will probably only be able to see that picture on your profile page as I don't believe that they are currently being displayed on thread replies. (At least, I only see them sporadically, I may have that feature turned off). There are lots of problems going on with photos here currently. The last I tried (this week) you could not attach a photo to a PM or (just tried within the last hour) you could not attach a photo to a thread reply.
According to Ian's reply, he can see his photo in a thread reply so I must have that option turned off. (I checked, I can see my avatar if I turn the feature back on).
I tried uploading a .jpg <50KB photo in place of my avatar, but it won't accept it so the server must not be functioning correctly at the moment. (It has ""lost"" my previous photo and replaced it with an old graphic avatar.
Thank you all. I guess I will just sweat in that heavy coat until the problem is fixed.
Yes, Ian, my current photo is also actual rather than an avatar, and yes, Quentin, I first tried to upload the photo from a "Pictures" link, (which I thought I remembered having used before). The system advised me, as it did you, that the "upload picture" function is not currently supported, which is why I turned to the "avatar" link.
I suppose I could choose an avatar - they look to be a lot of fun...but would I be worthy of the one I would choose. Now let me try to write that in Spanish: sería..soy.. digna del simbolo en que pongo los ojos y quería elegir....'
When I try to upload a new avatar I remove the old one, and the get my new one ready to upload, and then the old one shows back up is anyone else having this problem''
Quentin, until now all your posts (for the last 1-2 weeks) have been showing your stunning photo with the headphones. I notice now that you have no avatar at all.
