I was reading this children's story ([mentiras])[1]

It ended with " Y el pájaro voló." Since the story had nothing to do with birds I was wondering if this was a Spanish signoff like "Colorin. colorado, este cuento ya se ha terminado"?

What happened to the category on idioms, sayings, modísmos, etc. ?

It's probably related to the context. It might be saying that somebody left the place, the house, the city, his parents home, his loved one, etc. I can't tell without reading the whole story.
