Login issues

It's not THAT big of a deal, but I have had to login four or five times so far today.

I have not closed out my browser at any point.

Is there a limit to how long you can be logged in before you have to log yourself in again?

If it matters, I have been using Internet Explorer.

We're aware of this and are looking into it. It's as infuriating to us as to anyone. - Toph, Aug 7, 2009

I have had a similar experience, however, it was when I had multiple pages open, some of which I hadn't logged into. When I was switching between pages I got the log in message. I am using firefox version 3.0.13

I'm using Firefox 3.5.2 (just to let you know that there are version updates) - 0074b507, Aug 7, 2009

On the old site, I never had to log in, even after closing my browser or restarting my computer. I think I only logged in to the old site once or twice after joining, and that was when I purged my browser history; however, I have lost count of how many times I have had to log in today alone.

I thought checking "Remember me" meant that the site would "remember me," and that I wouldn't have to type in my username and password every time.

I had the same experience. I never used to have to log in again. Now I do. - Alicia-53, Aug 7, 2009
Today is my first time to log in to the new Spanishdict and I had the same problem too. - Lorna-Gray, Aug 9, 2009

HI black, this is rather a nuisance. We are working with firefox here and all the new items are tried out on that system. I cannot log in with Chrome, but firefox and explorer work, let's see if we can find somebody who can help you there.

I have a similar issue but in a different way. Please someone help me. I use my laptop to usually login to spanishdict.com and I do my lessons just fine, however, when I use my PC it would not let me log in. It keeps asking me to log in. I tried clearing the cache, cookies and all that but still no luck. I have even tried using internet explorer but I still cannot log in.

Most sites will cancel your session after some period (determined by the site's policy) after a period of inactivity. I thought that we did too (but, perhaps, it was that I was in the habit of logging out after a "session").

Multiple pages for the same site present different problems. In my experience, if I log in (on one page) and then open a new page/tab/window, the subsequent page(s) reflect my already logged-in status. This is reasonable because the site knows only that the message came from your computer (it does not know that you have opened a new page/window/tab [or, for that matter, a session in a different browser]). Strictly speaking, it doesn't even know that it comes from your computer but, rather, that it comes from your IPA. So If you have multiple computers on a LAN that are using address aliasing, logging in with one should cause them to all be recognized as "logged in". I've never actually tried this but I will.

Well, I don't understand why but I found that browser sessions started on two differnt computers (with two different operating systems) did not reflect my "logged in" status. This is very odd because (from the point of view of my ISP) I only have one IPA - samdie, Aug 7, 2009
After starting Explorer (something that I would not normally do), I am again presented with a screen that reflects, not only, my IPA but my browser type and version are being used to identify my session. My other computers are all using Firefox but (perfo - samdie, Aug 7, 2009
I'm no expert in this, but I think the answer is that the session data is actually stored in a cookie on your local machine. Also note that this doesn't carry over from one browser to another -- if you open IE and log in, you won't be logged in on FF. - Toph, Aug 7, 2009

I am using Chrome, and sometimes I have to log in again. But as I clicked the "remember me", I only have to actually click on log in and I get logged in automatically. I don't have to type in anything.

Given your typing skills, that must be a considerable relief. (jeje) - samdie, Aug 7, 2009
JAJAJAJA!! This comment wins the "Comedian of the Day" award, samdie!! I would vote for it 10 times if I could!!! - hhmdirocco, Aug 7, 2009
No such luck for me. When I get booted (sometimes randomly, while reading a thread, but inactive for a few minutes) I have to type in everything again. - hhmdirocco, Aug 7, 2009
