Where are the errors in the Learn videos?

Where are the errors in the Learn videos?

Over the next few weeks, I will be re-exporting all the videos in the Learn section so I can incorporate the new logo as well as fix any errors. Please use this thread as a way of providing specific feedback to me for errors you may have found in the lesson. The ideal format would be: the course and lesson title (Learn Spanish 3.2), the time at which the error is located (4.24), and specifically what the error is. For example: "Aprender inlgés 2.3 at 8.19 you spelled the word football incorrectly".

Thank you so much in advance for providing any feedback you can so that I can make all the lessons as good as they can possibly be.

Paralee, I use this chance to thank you for all the videos I've watched so far(15 lessons). They were really very informative and enjoyable. I dont see any change is needed so far. Thank you for keeping my eyes and ears focused on the screen. Best wishes. - 004cd332, SEP 24, 2009
Thank you, Omar. I am glad you are enjoying the lessons. But I'm always wanting to make them better! - Paralee, OCT 7, 2009
Like the new logo on the videos! Awesome :) - April-Sarah, MAY 31, 2010
Learn Spanish 2.9, at 10:22, Éramos needs a tilde over the e, and should be pronounced accordingly. Also, the word tímidas was pronounced as tímidos in the same sentence. - sheilariea2, ENE 1, 2011
We love you Paralee! =) - DJ_Huero, MAR 24, 2011

This is what I have so far, so if you know of any others, please add to this thread. Also, if you have more details on the errors that do not have time codes, feel free to add those as well. The corrections begin soon!

  • LS 1.3: replace "to run" with "beber"
  • LS 2.6: (9.00) change "Vlajaron" to "Viajaron" - misspelled
  • LS 2.9: (11.50) the horses should be "enérgicos", not "energéticos" - audio
  • LS 2.9: (6.19) change "jugábais" to "jugabais" - remove tilde
  • LS 3.1: (7.42) change "compleaños" to "cumpleaños" - misspelled
  • LS 3.10 - title should be "Learn Spanish 3.10 - Excuses in the Conditional"
  • LS 3.13: (4.58) text should say "Me gusta la falda corta"
  • LS 4.7: "rapidamente" should have a tilde
  • LS 4.7: el mariscal del campo NOT el mariscol del campo
  • LS 4.8: (1.29) "números orDINales"
  • LS 4.9: arm is missing during "vámonos"

LS 2.9 (7.21 and 7.43) if you want to mention the animals' names the sentences should say, "Tenía una tortuga que se llamaba Sam." and "Tenía una cobaya que se llamaba Lily." respectively. - sheilariea2, ENE 1, 2011

Paralee, I think you should get a native Spanish speaker assistant to review before you publish some lesson.

Good idea. This could also help with typical non-native accent and pronunciation faux pas that we non-natives are "deaf" to. This should, of course, be an educated native speaker. - hhmdirocco

Am I educated enough? wink

I have revised several of the videos myself, but you can look at them a hundred times and you simply don't "see" the errors after a time. Same happens with flashcards...tell me about it! Quentin was so good as to revise my wonderfully perfect flashcards...I thought! He found a dozen mistakes in most of them! downer

Thanks everybody for the input, this is great help smile

Is that your voice we hear pronounce the words in the flashcards? I mean, I've never heard Ms. Klum speak, so I don't know ;-P - webdunce, SEP 23, 2009
I had the same problem with my "perfect" false friends flash cards. How humbling! Hey, it's how we learn. - JoyceM, ENE 12, 2011

"Muchas gracias por enseñarnos español." English gerund usually = Spanish infinitive. Languages don't take the article after certain verbs like "enseñar." - hhmdirocco, AGO 7, 2009
my thoughts exactly about the infinitive usage, but when Googliing I saw examples using the gerund (present participle). Teaches me for believing everything that I read. - 0074b507, AGO 8, 2009

Hi Paralee,

Something else I noticed which isn't really to do with the videos, so sorry if this isn't the place, but if after doing a recall exercise on the flashcards you review wrong entries the captions are wrong;

lesson 3.2, "watch", time -10,08 phrase: ¿has escalado una montado alguna vez en tu vida? is quite funny, assuming that "montado" is "small piece of bread with a savoury topping" grin

jejejejejejje, now that is a funny flaw, escalar un montado, genial, I have eaten a lot...but climbed....lol!! - 00494d19, SEP 2, 2009
maybe you should try to "escalar un montado", it may be really funny, although it depends, of course, on the kind of topping :-) - Maciek071, SEP 2, 2009

I was wondering if there will be any new lessons once the fourth level has been completed. Believe me, I am no where close to having mastered all of the material that is currently offered. But I wanted to know what the future held as far as any new lessons beyond Spanish 4.15.

Thanks so much for all of your hard work!

4.15 is as far as I am going to go with the video lessons. I am trying to put together a plan for some audio only conversational lessons, but we'll have to wait and see. - Paralee, SEP 8, 2009

You're just correcting videos, right? You're not looking for Practice section errors, are you?

I see two errors here ... "como" (cómo) and "Prácticar" (Practicar). Also, shouldn't all the options at the top be in the same form, e.g., infinitive, imperative? - hhmdirocco, AGO 7, 2009
I brought up that tilde error (prácticar) two site versions ago. Apparently it require too much effort to locate and edit it. (seriously, not sarcastically) - 0074b507, AGO 8, 2009
I cannot see the picture, but I have told those resposible for Prácticar and also Empiece (which should be Empezar). - Paralee, AGO 10, 2009

Hi,

I don't know if you're still checking this thread, but I noticed today in doing lesson 2.7, that in the Listen section there are a few words that the audio doesn't play. I think one's on the second word to appear and one's on "los boletos".

Many thanks, I continue to appreciate the great lessons!

Sorry I forgot to be precise, and I hope someone else has been. This was a challenging lesson for me and it didn't occur to me there was an error until later.

In Lesson 1.13, there is no sound for "cortar el césped" in the Listen. I believe that there is no sound in earlier parts as well.

Despite whatever problems there are, I'm really enjoying the lessons and think I'll have better luck learning Spanish.

This may have been mentioned before but I'll mention it anyway because it is still in the video. I just noticed this in Lession 1.10 at the video mark 10.28. Paralee is talking about the uncle and the word for uncle while on the screen the words shown are Aunt = tía. Obviously not uncle = tío.

Hi, this is not a correction, I wouldn't dream of it! I had problems with the sound on lesson 1:10, family. On the flashcard listen section, there was no audio on 3 of the questions, but fine on the rest. It may not be the site thats faulty, it could be a server, or internet, or my computer or connection etc. You may want to check it for yourself. My sincere thanks for the site, and the hard work everyone involved must have done.

Thank you for all of the wonderful lessions, I have learnt a lot here.

In 4.1 the incorrect terms tenso/s are used on a number of occasions - I believe that they should be 'tiempo/s' (verbales) smile

Let me just say that this is an AMAZING site. It has helped me a ton and I'm sure many of you can agree. Yes, there are a few errors here and there, but overall, I LOVE IT! Thank you so much Paralee and everyone else who helps/has helped to make this site such a success!

I've found two minor mistakes in lesson 3.5 video: at 02'01" Paralee reads the word "estos" as "estes" and at 08'59" there is missing letter "a" at the end of the word - "Esa grapador" instead of "Esa grapadora"
