A transitive verb is a verb that requires a direct object (e.g. I bought a book.).
1. (to defend oneself from)
a. parar
Luis parried the blow and counterattacked.Luis paró el golpe y contraatacó.
b. desviar
Had Lucrecia not parried the thrust of the sword, she could have been mortally wounded.Si Lucrecia no hubiera desviado el espadazo, podría haber sido herida de muerte.
c. rechazar (attack)
The soldiers parried the attack with their shields.Los soldados usaron sus escudos para rechazar el asalto.
2. (to avoid)
a. eludir
The actor changed the subject in order to parry the host's question.El actor cambió de tema para eludir la pregunta del presentador.

3. (to block a blow)
a. esquivar un golpe
The fencer parried and then thrust his sword at his opponent.El esgrimista esquivó un golpe y dio una estocada hacia su oponente.

4. (sports)
a. la parada
