An intransitive verb is one that does not require a direct object (e.g. The man sneezed.).
1. (to hover around)
a. to flutter
El periquito revoloteó por toda la habitación buscando su jaula.The parakeet fluttered around the room looking for its cage.
b. to flit
En primavera es habitual ver revoloteando a las mariposas en el parque.In spring, it's normal to see butterflies flitting in the park.
c. to flit about
La mariposa revoloteaba dentro del tarro de cristal.The butterfly flitted about inside the glass jar.
2. (to whirl around)
a. to fly around
El viento otoñal arrancaba y hacía revolotear las hojas de los árboles.The fall wind uprooted the tree leaves and made them fly around.
b. to swirl around
La ventana se abrió de golpe y todos los documentos revolotearon por la habitación.The window opened suddenly and all the documents swirled around the room.
c. to flutter
El polen de las flores andaba revoloteando por el aire y por eso estornudé.The pollen from the flowers was fluttering in the air which is why I sneezed.
3. (to move around)
a. to flit around
La joven becaria andaba todo el día revoloteando por la sala de redacción del periódico.The young intern was always flitting around the newspaper's editorial office.
