Usage note
The adjective “mil un” is used instead of “mil uno” before masculine nouns and “mil una” is used before feminine nouns.

An adjective is a word that describes a noun (e.g. the big dog).
1. (number)
a. one thousand and one
¿Por qué sabes que hay mil un escalones hasta lo alto del campanario? - Porque los conté.Why do you know there are one thousand and one steps to the top of the belfry? - Because I counted them.
A masculine noun is used with masculine articles and adjectives (e.g. el hombre guapo, el sol amarillo).
2. (number)
a. one thousand and one
El mil uno no es divisible por dos.One thousand and one isn't divisible by two.
