Ana Isabel madruga todas las mañanas para ir al gimnasio.Ana Isabel gets up early every morning to go to the gym.
Mañana tengo que madrugar, así que creo que es mejor irme ahora.I have to get up early tomorrow, so I think it's better to leave now.
2. (to arrive early)

This refers to an idiomatic word or phrase for which there is no word-for-word translation.
El reloj marcó la medianoche y los fuegos artificiales madrugaron.After the clock struck midnight, it wasn't long before the fireworks started going off.
La película no estrena por otros tres días más, pero las críticas positivas madrugan.The movie doesn't come out for another three days, but the positive reviews have already started rolling in.

3. (colloquial) (to overtake) (Latin America)
A word or phrase that is commonly used in conversational speech (e.g. skinny, grandma).
Regionalism used in Latin America: all the countries in South America, Central America, and the Caribbean. Does not include Spain.

Me madrugaron con los lugares en la mesa.Everybody but me got a seat at the table.
