This means that the noun can be masculine or feminine, depending on the gender of person it refers to (e.g. el doctor, la doctora).
4. (university)

Muchos graduados tardan meses en encontrar su primer empleo.It takes months for many graduates to find their first job.
A masculine noun is used with masculine articles and adjectives (e.g. el hombre guapo, el sol amarillo).
