A masculine noun is used with masculine articles and adjectives (e.g. el hombre guapo, el sol amarillo).

Mi padre me dio un cale en los pies para que los bajara de la mesa ratona.My father gave me a slap on the feet so I would get them off the coffee table.
b. smack
El pasajero sentado a mi lado me despertó con un cale y me avisó que me tenía que bajar en esa parada.The passenger next to me woke me up with a smack and told me I had to get off at that stop.
