Ertzaintza [erˈtʃaintʃa]
autonomous Basque police (force)
The Ertzaintza is the Basque autonomous police force, recognizable by its distinctive uniform of red sweater, red beret and white truncheon. Madrid has devolved certain policing responsibilities to the Basque government (as well as to Catalonia) but the national police forces, the Policía Nacional and the Guardia Civil, continue to have a role as well.
