No te preocupes Martin, es bueno saber cómo se usa el español por todas partes. Sí es muy posible que en el medio rural sea común lo que mencionas.
Al menos aqui en el suroeste de Mexico, comúnmente se dice que un autobus camine.

Personalmente no diría que un autobús "camina", aunque es posible. Considera usar "se mueve" o "va".
