"Tu" becomes "su" when you are talking about "him" or "her" (su) instead of "your" (tu).

You can't use "le" instead of "el" anymore than you cannot use "on" instead of "no" in English. They happen to have the same letters in reverse, but they are not related.

He could be referring to when you use le rather than a él. Even if not, I think he meant él; not el.

tu = you ex. Tu no tienes dinero = You have no money.
su = yours ex. Este es su dinero = This is your money.
