que is wat like-que haces and cual is which like-cual es

First think what "what" and "which" mean in English.
Example "What music do you like'" (general)
"I like Classic - Rock and Roll - Romantic - Rap - Country and Western."
"Ah! But WHICH one or ones do you like the best? " (specific)
You use which in English when you have a LIST or a limited number of choices.
It is not always used this way and maybe not in Spaniah - I am not the expert.

Qué -- is used for things and facts and I translate as "what"
Cuál -- is used for a selection and I translate as "which" (helps me with the use of "cuánto" -- how many)

Nope. Qué often means which, and cuál often means what.

¿Qué libros necesitan? = Which books do you need?
¿Cuál es tu número de teléfono? = What is your phone number'

Thanks Quentin. Will try to work it out. I was taking 'que' as 'what'............and 'qual' as 'which'. ...but it doesn't work that way!! Probably confusing it with Italian!!
