Ok, so i was telling my friend to "come". ( as in come over to my place)

so i said venga. since my friend can speak spanish, but doesn't know how to write it. He thought it was supposed to be vanga. anywho, according to him vente means come. But i've never heard that before. so i guess my question is whether vente mean come.

There are two ways to avoid this problem of double posting, at least until the bug is fixed.

  1. When you open a thread, click on the Stop button of your browser before starting to write your reply. This will stop the page from reloading.

  2. If the reloading happens and there are two reply boxes superposed (mostly overlapping), you can go back to the previous page and then reopen the thread (and do No. 1). If you have typed something, it should still be there when you open the reply box, or just to be sure, you can copy it beforehand.

Of course, most members here won't do either of these, so we'll continue to get these double posts until the bug is fixed.

Hi James
As you have just discovered, you can delete any double posts that may occur. This is not a new occurence. I remember about three months ago, Lazarus double posting on numerous occasions. I think it eventually turned out to be a fault with his browser.

While I believe you, I don't have any red X's. I still have the dividing lines between posts. Weird.

Hi Natasha
You may need to empty the cache of your browser, cookies, temporary files etc. Re-start and you should then get the red cross. You may well lose the dividing lines, however.

You're right James, the lines dividing the posts are gone.
I also have had the problem of my reply disappearing.
I suppose that they are working on this and it can only get better.

In Argentina we use: "venite" instead of "vente".
Example: Come home tomorrow so we can chat and have mate.
Venite a casa mañana así charlamos y tomamos mate.

I think there used to be lines between the posts, to help distinguish them, but there are none now.

The delete function seems to be back now. Just to the right of my avatar on my message above, there is a red X. I assume it is for deleting, although I haven't tried it yet. I'll make a dummy post right now and try deleting it.

What do you mean about the dividing lines?

I've gotten duplicate posts once, and deleted them, but now we can't delete them.

Another double-posted response -- has anyone figured out what's going on with that?

Yes. There is a bug in the software. Sometimes, when I am in the middle of writing a post, the page will suddenly reload and my post disappears. I then click on Reply, and see my half-written message, but the reply box is doubled, with one on top of the other. When I then click on Add Reply, both messages are posted. Since I'm aware of this, I immediately delete one of them, but other members are apparently unaware of what is going on. This site still has several such bugs.

And now the dividing lines between posts are gone. And sorely missed! (Note sentence beginning with conjunction.)

I forgot to mention that brick is ladrillo, so there is no confusion with tile.

What's the difference between ven and vente?

Doesn't venirse have a sexual connotation in some countries?

Venirse is more of an emphatic version of venir in command form, but you can say:

Ven a ver esto = Come and see this
Ven pa(ra) acá = Come over here
Vente/ven = Come here

You can think of vente as "get yourself over here."
