que es tamborazos? "down from the mts. to the tamborazos: rough, coarse and in some places considered as the last racist." This is supposed to be a proverb of some sort?

This seems to be more commonly spelled with a z. I found this on this site: -bajado de la sierra a tamborazos: huraño, tosco, en algunos lugares considerado como término racista contra los pueblos aut'ctonos.
término here is not "last", but "term". Socially inept, rough, in some places considered a racial epithet.
As far as what the tamborazos really are . . . we are in the dark until someone from Mexico helps us out.
im wondering if its understood all over, or its just used in mexico'
