Typing Spanish
For those who ask how to type the ÿ, the accents and other Spanish symbols like ¿ or ¡, here is the most efficient method in Windows XP (although in Vista is similar):
Go to Control Panel
Click on Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options.
Then click on Regional and Language Options
Select the Languages tab.
Click on Details.
Click on Add, choose Spanish, and then select any variant.
The International Sort is configured like this:
The one used in Mexico like this:

Type your Spanish letters by using the windows key + the letter in question (like win+e for é, or win+q for ¿), or press ctrl+space for a menu where you can choose all kinds of international characters. So ctrl+space and then x will give you ¡.
I don't know if you do the lessons here on SpanishDict.com, but to me when you do the Recall portion of the Practice lessons it is more of a timed typing test than a test of your knowledge. It's quite easy to get 20 out of 20 of the fill-in's correct and still get a lousy score.(especially if the responses have many punctuation, special characters or are lengthy). Using awkward key combinations or menus are impractical in these contexts. However, if you're not rushed or don't type Spanish for a living, this program seems simple to install, use and gets the job done.
I don't think you quite got the idea with win+(key). Do you have two windows logo keys on your bottom row? Yeah, those there, that you almost never use for anything. They can easily be reached without looking when you curl either pinky a bit inwards towards your fist. I'm assuming that your keyboard looks a bit like mine, but either way, it's less of a stretch than the shift or ctrl keys.
Now, holding down one of those windows-keys while hitting e, say, is as quick as it gets. A problem that I'm sure you know about when using the US international keyboard is that it makes a few keys "dead", and your existing habits will have to be changed to accomodate that. Typing " twice etc... pure insanity, in my book (not published).

It is using the code, I couldnt Install a keyboard but that would be nice!
Don't worry about it. Run this instead. You'll have your characters available within 10 seconds from clicking the link. It doesn't require any slideshows or instructional videos, though there is a help screen that pops up when the program starts. Could someone tell me how to do it on a PREMIUM Windows VISTA? What exactly is it? Using the code method or installing a keyboard.
Take a look at this slideshow. I made it using Windows Vista Home.
If there are any differences on the Premium version they should be minor. This setup takes less than 10 minutes so if the slideshow seems daunting just give it a try.

if you have problems finding it, click on View Lll. There is one for XP and one for Vista. This is to install the US International keyboard. There are other keyboards with Spanish characters if you prefer one. The method is the same for any keyboard.

Thanks for letting me know it worked for you. When someone showed it to me it helped so much!
The way I type Spanish is, I think, the easiest to speed type with and get used to. I found it on some site, and the inputs are very logical.
Go to Control Panel.
Go to Regional and Language Options.
Click on the Languages Tab.
Click on "Details."
Click "Add" On the right.
Select "English (United States)" from the top drop down bar.
Check the "Keyboard Layout/IME" box.
Select "United States - International" from the drop down bar that becomes available.
Click "OK" to everything and close the Control Panel.
This looks very much like Windows XP. It would be helpful if you mentioned which OS that you are describing as people use various OS here at this site.
¡Gracias, Gracias! It actually worked, again ¡Gracias!
This has been the easiest for me:
Press the "Alt" key on your keyboard and while keeping it pressed, type the combinations of numbers below. The numbers must be typed on the keypad or the letters won't work. The keypad is on the right of your keyboard (NOT above the letters on your keyboard.) It's easier than you think to do and memorize them.
"Alt" + "0225" á "Alt" + "0193" Á
"Alt" + "0233" é "Alt" + "0201" ÿ
"Alt" + "0237" í "Alt" + "0205" Í
"Alt" + "0243" ó "Alt" + "0211" ÿ
"Alt" + "0250" ú "Alt" + "0218" ÿ
"Alt" + "0252" ü "Alt" + "0220" ÿ
"Alt" + "0241" ñ
"Alt" + "0191" ¿
"Alt" + "0161" ¡
I tried looking for that on my computer, but I couldent find it :(
Mabey I am jst looking at it wrong, I suppose
It aint like that on my windows vista

This is what the Spanish keyboard's layout looks like. The main difference between it and an English keyboard is the locations of the !¡ ¿? () and the ñ.
If this is the type of keyboard layout that you wish, follow the instructions in the link given in my first reply. It will take you to a post Lazarus provided showing how to install a Spanish Keyboard in Windows XP.
